The Power of Posture

There’s loads of great pointers around posture and commanding the room – how you move, how you position yourself as you present etc, but for me, the relationship between posture and breath is key.

Sitting and standing – how you open the body, that then opens the diaphragm and chest area.

If you are a quiet speaker then one way to increase your lung capacity is to simply sit up straight or stand up straight.

And, sometimes the relationship between having a quiet voice and ‘closing’ the body (shoulders hunched, arms crossed, crossing your legs etc) are interlinked, so posture and confidence are likewise linked.

One thing I love to do with people I work with at the studio, is to record them both sitting and standing, and listen out for any subtle differences.

It’s such a great way to play with volume.

So, if you want a stronger, more resonant voice, then always be aware of your sitting or standing posture.

A big thank you to Oscar for being my posture model! It was so great to work with you and your voice.
