How To Improve Your Articulation
Do you ever get a bit tongue-tied? Try this simple warm-up exercise before your next pitch, presentation or online meeting. It really helps.
Good articulation is the key to speaking clearly. It will help your audience follow your ideas easily. Here is a simple articulation exercise that will help with enunciation and pronunciation.
1. Say this tongue twister 3 times, getting faster each time:
“The tip of the tongue the teeth, the lips the lips, the teeth the tip of the tongue.”
2. Keeping your mouth closed, roll your tongue around the inside of your mouth clockwise and then counterclockwise.
3. Now, roll your tongue around your mouth 8 times in each direction, then 4 times, then 2 times. If it starts to hurt, don’t worry! This means you are doing it correctly.
4. Say the tongue twister again three times. Does it feel easier?
This exercise releases the root of the tongue and will improve articulation. Doing this exercise before an important speaking event will help you to communicate clearly and confidently.
This is just one of the tips I share in my FREE 6-part Voice and Presence video toolkit. A quick and handy resource for prepping you for any speaking event.
