How Can You Improve The Volume Of Your Voice?
Do you sometimes feel that your voice is too quiet, and that you want to speak a bit louder?
Speaking with more volume is a great way to engage your audience and, at the same time, sound more confident.
The volume and quality of your voice depends on the power and quality of your breath. So, how do you produce volume?
The human voice is produced by air from the lungs. When the diaphragm expands, it forces air out, through the vocal folds and larynx, which add tone and pitch to the voice. But the volume of your voice depends on the force of the air that’s pushed out from our lungs.
By using diaphragmatic breathing you can increase the amount of air in your lungs and give your voice more volume. If you breathe in deeply and fill your stomach, lungs and chest with more air, when you exhale your voice will sound stronger.
But using a strong voice is different to shouting. If you’re in a noisy restaurant, at a sports event or a pop concert then to make yourself heard, you’ll probably have to shout. But after a while that will strain your voice because the force of air is coming just from your throat area.
When speaking in front of a large audience, a strong voice and a stable volume come from breathing lower into your diaphragm, and that’s what makes a speaker sound strong and confident.
Speaking with volume is one part of being an engaging presenter, but varying the volume is also a great way to make an impact when you deliver speeches, pitches and presentations.
