All the financial gurus talk about investing early and often – start young and keep at it through the highs and lows of the financial markets.

I say, starting out in your career, do the same with public speaking.  Jump at any opportunity to pitch, present or even MC at your company events. Why? Because of the virtuous circle:

“A recurring cycle of events, the result of each one being to increase the beneficial effect of the next.” (Oxford Dictionary)

So here’s the virtuous circle of working on your voice:

If you can improve your own professional speaking voice, if you can speak with more confidence and authority, your audience will respond positively, and that will give you more confidence. Then with more confidence, you’ll begin to speak with more authority, which will lead in turn, to an even better response from your listeners.

And round and round you go, getting more and more adept at speaking in public. Start early and reap the rewards later.
