Teacher Talking Time
One of the best learnings for me at university was to be taught how to structure training sessions around how long the teacher talked.
This was to ensure that a workshop didn’t become the ‘ME’ show.
I’ve sat through a few of those in my career and it grates me; the trainer takes centre stage and somehow dominates, leaving the learner short-changed.
For all my workshops, I’ve made absolutely sure that there is a balance. I convey the teaching points but allow ample time for every participant to practice, to get feedback and to embed the learning.
Noisy, engaging, targeted; that’s a pre-requisite, but most importantly is for me to shut up and let the participants do the talking.
