Real Voices VS AI Voices?

I don’t know about you, but automated customer care voices drive me nuts. Trapped in a vortex of “I’m sorry, could you say that again”, “could you repeat that?” UGH.

This article has some great research on voices for customer care, with some celebrity voices thrown in for good measure.

No time to read the article? In short, of the people surveyed:

78% -want to speak to a real person
11% – prefer automated systems (Seriously? Who are you people?)
84% – over 54yrs old want a real person – Make it 85% including me.

And what about the qualities of a real voice?

72% – prefer a medium pitch (not high, not low)
24% – found male voices more trustworthy
23% – found female voices more trustworthy
49% – want clear pronunciation (that’s kind of a given, no?)

I like research and analysis. It underpins my work around the science of the voice. But my love of AI voices, whether on automated systems or voice overs is sadly lacking.
