How Do We Really Sound?

A lot of people I coach say “I hate the sound of my voice on a recording”.

Strong words indeed.

But, why is that?

Because the voice that we hear is not the voice that other people hear. The resonance is different, that’s all.

Here’s the thing. If you consistently record yourself when you are preparing for any speaking event, you will get to understand all the subtle aspects of your voice, and once you do that, then there’s no need to “hate” your voice.

You’ll get to finesse how you sound. In fact, my hope is that you’ll learn to love your voice.

Here’s me asking a full house at the Law Society of Singapore, “Who likes the sound of their voice?”

How many hands went up?
