Commanding The Room

This rather grandiose term is, in its simplest form, about keeping people interested in your message.

One way to keep listeners engaged is through gesture. It underlines your message, adds impact to your delivery and from a voice point of view, slows you down and increases your volume.

But how about online?

Yes, you still have to be conscious of how you look and how you sound. But here, you’re commanding attention through a tiny camera lens.

In my communication skills workshops I am always referring to both mediums – face to face and online.

It’s crucial that we are mindful of how we look and sound in both environments, especially online, as we sometimes have to work harder to make an impression.

Thank you Stephenson Harwood LLP for giving me the opportunity to work with such an engaging group of legal professionals looking at how we use voice and presence to add impact and authority and command the room.
